Who Are We

You embody centeredness + beauty

SNAPSHOT | Metal is strength embodied in the duality of  beauty -- it's our outward presentation of structure and order similar to metals, gems, and stones, but with the ability to melt and transform, revealing the beauty and gifts that lie under the surface. Metal energy seeks to find inner worthiness by acknowledging the roles we present to the world and recognizing the parts of our identities that we keep hidden. As one out of the traditional 5 elements, we look to metal energy to reveal our true purpose. It guides our ability to discern what really matters in life and helps us sort through all the noise + distractions, clearing out what is not necessary and giving us strength to let go, creating the clarity we need to embark on our next adventure.

Grief and attachment are the emotions that relates to the metal element. In the right balance, sadness and grief can be cleansing, when we understand how to find support, cope, and let go; however, when out of balance, it can cause loss of boundaries, overbearing reactions and numbness. We know this element is out of balance when our flexibility and power of transformation becomes rigid and unchanging. With metal element virtues like self worth, receptivity, purity and inspiration, we have to find our inner strength to rise from the ashes, and shine again.

The Rituals are practiced as an holistic approach to fully alchemize our most beautiful selves, but to also act as a conduit to help us to embody the virtues expressed by each element. The Rituals section (below) gives details for how to incorporate metal element energy into multiple areas of your wellbeing.

SKINCARE + BEAUTY | The metal element rules the tissues of the skin + lymphatic system. Just as the lungs expel toxic CO2 from our bodies, the lymphatic system and skin purge and remove debris as well -- our body's way of letting go of all that doesn't serve us. The metal element will show up through the skin as dullness, dryness, fine lines, diminished elastin/collagen, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, irritation, and even acne. Using skincare that exfoliates, hydrates, and repairs through nourishment helps to promote the healthy skin under the surface, creating an inner foundation of strength that can shine through. SHOP metal element skin product below.

ELEMENTAL NUTRITION | The metal element loves a pungent sense of taste, which is another way of saying aromatic and spicy. Just as you'd hope, this includes Pumpkin Spice and Chai Tea Lattes! While it's best to stick to a mostly balanced diet, our bodies might need a boost of metal element every now and again (especially during the Fall season and when our immunity needs a boost). Here are some examples: Spices like cinnamon, anise, ginger and clove and foods like garlic, onion, horseradish, scallions, and leeks. It's also a great time to ingest soups, stews and stir-frys.

MOVEMENT | Exercises that focus on soft strengthening, stability, and release like purposeful breathing exercises, qi gong, and running are among the movements that bring metal element types back to their bodies.

AROMATHERAPY | Metal element energy relates to our sense of smell and creates a connection to our breath, mind and lungs. As the season of metal energy rules Autumn, certain essential oils can help clear our minds, attune our bodies and strengthen our immune systems for the upcoming winter. These include Clary sage, Eucalyptus, Tea tree, Frankincense, Pine, Fir, Lavender, Bergamot and Ravensara.

MINDFULNESS | A balanced metal element invokes feelings of strength + stability. It asks for courageousness in daily life and to take actionable steps to achieve a greater sense of purpose. When out of balance, the metal element is lazy and apathetic with the belief that "I can't do it." However, awareness is half the battle, and thought out actionable steps that provide value is the best medicine. Practice chest opening exercises/stretches, take deep breaths, say Metal element affirmations, and release sorrow while exhaling.

SPACES | Metal thrives on organization. Incorporating a healthy amount of structure and organization to the spaces around us creates an atmosphere ideal for enhancing ideas, inspiration and planning. Try tidying up a few areas and experimenting with colors white, grey, silver, gold, or brass. Add a metal vase with flowers, picture frame or other artwork with metal elements. Hang a wind chime or decorate with circular shapes.
